VACANCY REFERENCE NUMBER: MTN-ITDBA007 POSITION DETAILS Position: Specialist, DBA Operations Level: MTN Level 2 Division: Information Technology Department: IT Operations Location: Accra Reports to: Senior Specialist, IT DBA Operations JOB SUMMARY The Specialist, DBA Operations will perform activities required to maintain a successful database environment. This includes designing, implementing, securing, monitoring, and supporting the organization’s enterprise database systems. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Create and maintain all databases required for development, testing, and production environments. • Plan and implement database backup and recovery procedures. • Monitor backup and recovery tasks daily. • Maintain disk groups, tablespaces, and data files. • Create and maintain database user accounts. • Implement and enforce security controls for all databases. • Optimize database performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform fine-tuning. • Conduct daily database health checks. • Participate in database upgrades and infrastructure expansions. • Estimate future disk-storage requirements and monitor available disk space. • Document and archive completed projects, tasks, procedures, and knowledge-sharing materials. • Perform other related duties assigned by the line manager. EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS • Minimum of a first degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field. • Relevant database certifications. • ITIL or other software and systems certifications. • Knowledge of COBIT 5, the business framework for the governance and management of enterprise IT. • Knowledge of Agile working practices and relevant certifications. EXPERIENCE • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the technology industry. TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE • Good knowledge of database administration across platforms such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, MySQL, Cassandra, MongoDB, and PostgreSQL. • Expert knowledge of SQL scripting. • Good knowledge of database replication technologies, including Data Guard and GoldenGate. • Knowledge of database security. • Good knowledge of NFS and clustered-storage solutions. • Knowledge of UNIX and Linux system administration. • Knowledge of shell scripting. • Knowledge of capacity planning. RELEVANT TECHNICAL CERTIFICATIONS AND PLATFORMS • Oracle Certified Associate or Oracle Certified Professional (OCA/OCP). • Oracle Real Application Clusters (RAC). • Oracle Grid Infrastructure Administration. • Oracle GoldenGate Certified Implementation. • MySQL 5.7 Database Administration. • MongoDB Database Administration. • Cassandra Database Administration. • Oracle Data Guard Implementation. • Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM). • Microsoft Certified Database Administrator (MCDB).
